Farmer Notes

12 September 2006

Hi folks,

Like the picture of Beatrice helping sort garlic?

This week is supposed to be mild, sunny weather, perfect for curing winter squash in the field. We just didn't get around to bringing it in last week, so much the better, so the skins can touchen up a bit before coming into the barn. Looks like a decent harvest, judging from the size of the two windrows in the field.

We'll also be taking down tomato stakes, mowing old crops (melons, tomatoes, corn) and disking/ploughing them in. We will continue to cover crop the soil with rye/vetch/clover as pieces of land are made ready as crops come out. Otherwise, harvesting, harvesting, harvesting.

In your share this week:

Edamame (steam the pods, bite out the beans)
garlic
celery
peppers
cukes
lettuce mix
tomatoes
winter squash
kale/collards
onions
beets
basil

Cheers,
Dan
