Hello NYC CSA members,
Enclosed are a few pics from the farm. Shown in both photos is my brother Chris, picking and sorting tomatoes. What a harvest its been! We start our harvesting the morning before the day of distributions, due to the quantities and diversity of things ready in the field.
Tomorrow AM we'll start the day by feeding the pigs and chickens, cleaning out the distribution site, harvesting cabbage, onions, +carrots. In the afternoon, we'll harvest tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, + squash. This makes Tuesday AM less chaotic. On the day of distributions, we typically harvest all of the soft items (lettuce, greens, broccoli, corn) before the sun rises to ensure they stay cold longer into the day in storage or transportation.
Tomorrow's the CRAFT apprentice visit to Chubby Bunny Farm. Our topic for the visit/teaching will be
biointensive agriculture, irrigation, and small scale organic livestock husbandry. We also have a group of
first year Yale Students here for an orientation week of farming/bonding/volunteering. Should be a great
week for getting big projects finished. (Hand weeding strawberries, rock picking, harvesting tomatoes,
etc.)
Hope you're enjoying the veggies!
